MFM STUDIO POLICY CONTRACT
STUDENT AND PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT
While most students are initially excited to begin music lessons, be aware that they will face challenges and sometimes frustrations. As enthusiasm is replaced by the realization that discipline and commitment are vital to the learning process, the encouragement of family and friends becomes essential to their success.
Students – come to your lessons prepared to learn and work. This means not just having your music bag (complete with books and supplies). Being prepared also means that you have practiced! Set aside a regularly scheduled time to practice, whether it be at your instrument or just reviewing your music, flashcards, rhythm games, etc.
Parents – monitor your child's practice time. Help them keep that time distraction-free and make it part of their daily routine. Sign their practice logs and ALWAYS feel free to contact me with questions as they occur instead of waiting until the next lesson.
Practice time is priceless!
CANCELLATION POLICY
If you know in advance that you will not be at a lesson, please give me at least 24 hours' notice so I can adjust my schedule as needed. You will never be charged for a lesson canceled with at least 24 hours of advance notice. Please understand that this is not about collecting tuition – it is to keep a fair and equal commitment to all of my students and being considerate of others’ time.
If you or your child is sick, please let me know as soon as possible, and please try to schedule a make-up lesson within 2-3 days of the absence or as soon as your child is well. If your child or anyone in their household has COVID symptoms or tests positive for COVID, please contact the studio ASAP to notify me. I will maintain your privacy but must be able to keep the others who come to the studio safe and healthy.
Please ensure that you/your child are ON TIME for lessons. If you are more than 15 minutes late, the lesson will be canceled, and you will be charged in full for that lesson. Please be considerate of the students who are scheduled before and after you by arriving at and leaving the studio on time. You will have the option to make up that lesson at one of the designated make-up times. Whether or not the lesson is made up, it is still billable. The studio schedule can become very busy, and I regret that I do not have the flexibility to reschedule multiple missed lessons. Official make-up lessons can be arranged with the instructor.
If I need to cancel a lesson, I will also try my best to do so well in advance so we can reschedule. If we cannot reschedule, I will NOT charge you for that lesson. I appreciate your understanding that I have two young children and an Active Duty spouse, and sometimes sickness or emergencies happen. I promise to be equally as understanding in these cases involving my students and their families.
END OF CONTRACT and TUITION POLICY
If you feel that music lessons are not benefiting the student and would like to stop, I ask that you inform me no less than 2 weeks before the end of the month. I will gladly continue the lessons paid for but cannot refund any remaining balance. If the student is not taking lessons seriously or is consistently late, does not practice, etc., then we will need to discuss a resolution. Otherwise, I reserve the right to discontinue lessons, but only if we agree that it is in everyone's best interest.
If you know that you will be PCSing, kindly let me know in advance. In these circumstances, I will write a letter for you detailing the student's progress and repertoire to present to your future music teacher so they know where to resume your tutelage. If the orders are immediate (less than 2 weeks notice) I will gladly refund any amount paid in advance for the lessons we are unable to complete before you leave. Otherwise, any prepaid lessons will either be scheduled to the end of that month or forfeited.
I ask that tuition be paid on time (see below). Acceptable forms of payment are cash or check made payable to Heather Grindle from a local bank. If a check is returned for insufficient funds, I regret that I will no longer accept checks as payment, and I will ask that the full amount due be paid in cash, along with any fees incurred from NFCU before the next scheduled lesson. Failure to do so will result in suspension of lessons until the balance is paid in full.
